I think at best it only tackles half the problem of investing. Your list takes care of the FUNDAMENTALS of a stock, but nothing about the TECHNICALS (price movement).
You could buy a stock that scored all "+3’s" but if institutions and hedge funds have decided to sell out your sector (such as oil the past month) then you’re still screwed. You need to start learning technical analysis and find when a sector is in an "oversold" position and catch it right before it is about to cycle in as being "hot" again.
But you at least have a good system to filter out stocks that are fundamentally crap.
read comments (6)Why did it take so long to become a journeyman?
Posted by admin in Options Trading on 02 28th, 2010The system of primogentiure was used during the Middle Ages. This means that the oldest son would become lord of the manor, during the middle ages. One option for the other sons was to acquire a trade. A father would pay a master to teach his son a trade. The boy would become an apprentice, and often live with the family of the master. The boy could become a journeyman after about seven years. This meant that he could work in his trade and get paid for his work. Why did it take so long to become a journeyman?
Guilds existed to control and thus restrict the numbers engaged in any profession. The apprenticeships provided a source of ready, cheap labor for the masters. Plus the last step for a journeyman was to complete a major project (depending on the trade), and that remained the property of the master, the journeyman’s last payment for his ticket.
What are the costs and benefits of raising private capital through the Nasdaq OMX Portal Market system?
Posted by admin in Futures Trading on 02 28th, 2010I am hoping to receive responses from bankers whom have recent experience with the trading of the restricted securities currently being offered through the Nasdaq Portal Alliance system.
What is the success rate of issuers (on the Nasdaq Portal Market) meeting their fund raising goals? More specifically, with the success of pre-earnings and start-up firms that use the system to raise early capital.
How common is it for an entrepreneur with five years of real estate development experience to raise capital through the Nasdaq Portal, to fund the entrepreneur’s future commercial and residential developments? Is a sponsoring Broker or Stock Transfer Agent required to list on the Nasdaq OMX Portal system? Can the whole issuance, from beginning to end, be executed entirely by the issuing firm (through this Nasdaq Portal Trading System)?
I am currently a student in Financial Accounting at a university in California. I have been doing a bit of research on this topic of the Nasdaq Portal trading system. I hope to one day utilize it as an investment tool.
Any feedback is greatly appreciated.
I am not curious as to the NASDAQ PORTAL participants and all the bureaucratic nonsense that is currently happening, I am more interested in the results being realized from issuers utilizing the NASDAQ OMX MARKET PORTAL system – and in their ventures in acquiring private (sophisticated) investor capital.
The main benefit should be obvious – little regulatory oversight from the SEC.
It will be interesting to see the final form of the Portal Alliance after the financial market finishes its current gyrations. It appears at least six or seven of the original thirteen members no longer exist in the same form as when the Alliance was first formed.
"The founding members of The PORTAL Alliance are Bank of America, Bear Stearns, Citi, Credit Suisse, Deutsche Bank, Goldman Sachs, JPMorgan, Lehman Brothers, Merrill Lynch, Morgan Stanley, NASDAQ, UBS and Wachovia Securities"
If you’re "hoping to use the Alliance as an investment tool", you DO realize it’s open only to qualified investors with more than $100 million in assets, right? In other words, it’s the new old boys club.

Whats a good Forex trading system?
Posted by admin in Forex Trading on 02 28th, 2010I am just getting into trading forex online…what is a good online trading system with good profitiability? I’m just a beginner, I don’t know much about it but i know a little, but am trying to learn as much as possible. Right now i just want a basic good trading system that I can invest a little bit of money and try to turn that into good sums of cash. Also one that has free practice accounts.
I don’t mean I want someone’s system… I meant like and actual online company that does it. Kind of how Ameritrade is a good "system" for stocks, whats a good "system" for Forex?
I’ve read a lot about Forex, but I’ve never seen a proven profitable forex strategy, despite the claims of some scam web sites. Playing Forex can appear alluring, but the majority of people who try it lose money. All you have to do is do a web search on the words "Forex" and "lose" to see this is the consensus.
Forex is what we call a "zero sum" game. You are making a bet with someone else about whether a currency will rise or fall. For every winner there has to be a loser. If you are smarter than the average player, you may make money. If you are dumber than the average player, you are likely to lose money. Most of the people making the "bets" in Forex are highly trained professionals at banks and other institutions. You are unlikely to beat them at this game.
Actually Forex is not quite a zero sum game. It’s a slightly negative sum game as the Forex broker takes a small percentage each time in the spread. It’s a small amount but over a hundred trades, it ends up being a considerable amount of money. So the average player is likely to lose money, and remember the average player is a highly trained professional and probably smarter than you.
There is a lot of luck in Forex, and if you play it, you will have some periods of time where you make money. This is usually because you are having a lucky streak, not because you have suddenly become an expert Forex player. However, most people are unwilling to admit their success is due to luck. They become convinced they have a system that works, and lose a lot of money trying to refine it.
Further complicating the problem is the large number of Forex scams on the internet. Most Forex websites are of questionable honesty. You will find many people on the Internet that claim they made a lot of money using Forex. They are usually liars trying to make money. They will say: "Go to Forexcrap . com/q2347." The "q2347" is a signal to the Forexcrap site that you are being referred to them by "q2347." If they sell something to you, "q2347" gets a kickback. These coded signals can be hidden by different methods in the link. Other people will refer you to their own private website or blog for the purpose of trying to get money off you. Also there are a good number of trolls out there that like to pretend they are successful forex traders just for the fun of it.
I would recommend not trying to do Forex at all, unless you are a trained professional. It’s like playing poker with people better than you, with the house constantly taking a small percentage from the pot.
